Dancer Photoshoots

Images are so important for every dancer. Whether it's audition shots for colleges or companies, or just images to make memories and show how far you have come, photoshoots can be a brilliant time to show off your skills and create art to keep for a lifetime.

Making the most out of your session means you can have the most fun and have the best experience at the same time.

I hope that these simple hints and tips around some frequently asked questions can ensure you get the most out of our time together and create images you will cherish for a lifetime.

Frequently Asked Questions

"Do I have to be a certain age to book a shoot?"

Not at all. I have worked with dancers of all ages from 3 to adult and we have created so many amazing images of all of them. Lots of dancers also like to come back every year to try new things and show how much they have improved.

"Do I have to be really flexible and have lots of experience to book a shoot?"

Not at all!! I love creating simple images to show off any dancer at their best. This doesn't mean you have to be able to do crazy poses or jumps, and things can be as simple standing or sitting poses with great technique you can achieve at whatever level.

"Do you have outfits in the studio?"

Dancers come in all shapes and sizes so in short, no I don't have outfits in the studio.

It's best you bring things with you that you feel comfortable in, can easily move in and that fit with what you are looking for from a shoot.

For audition pictures, keep things simple so that your form is shown off rather than the outfit distracting from your technique.

For personal shoots, bringing a selection of plain and pattern leotards and two pieces allows for a variety of shots. Floaty lyrical dresses and skirts can help to create movement in images and give some lift to poses. For an extra splash of your personality, other clothing such as baggy jumpers can add a little something extra as well.

Please only bring pointe shoes with you to shoots if you have been trained to wear them and are confident in technique on pointe, otherwise these can be used as props only.

"Do you help with posing?"

I will admit it now, I am not a dancer! BUT, I have worked hard over the years to understand good technique and how to show dancers off the best I can in photo sessions. We will work together to try new things within your ability whilst making sure that good technique is maintained which you will always be proud of. We also work with inspiration shots to create beautiful shapes and timeless images to cherish. I love trying new things and creating beautiful shapes for images, so feel free to bring some ideas with you and we can try things together as well.

"How will I receive my photos?"

After your session, competition, festival or show, all photos will be uploaded to a private gallery in my Client Area of this website. You will be given a password to access the photos to keep you and them safe. Extra images can then be ordered directly through the website in addition to any that are included in your purchase.

Headshot Sessions

Headshots are a crucial part of every performers life. They are your first chance to create a lasting impression on a casting director and are vital to making sure you make a great impression that represents you well.

Sessions are designed to make sure you get the best images for you and what you want to use them for.

I hope these simple hints and tips around some frequently asked questions can ensure you get the most out of our time together and create images to show you off to your best.

Frequently Asked Questions

"Should I have my hair and make up professionally done for the session?"

If you can do your own make up to a good standard, this isn't essential. Some people like to have it done professionally to allow them to feel the part ahead of a session and give them a confidence boost, so that is totally ok too. I work with some of the best make up artists who can also be booked as an addition to your session if you would like.

"Can I change up my look during the session?"

Yes! The session is yours to make your own and get what you need out of it. Normally I would suggest a few different outfits and hair styles to make sure you get a range of images. Some things to keep in mind when styling your shoot though are:

  • You need to remain true to you as a person. Headshots aren't the time to try a red lip for the first time or curly hair if you always wear it straight. Remember, it's about showing who you can to a casting director so they know who will turn up for the audition.

  • Clothes should be subtle as not to distract from you. Try to limit plunging neck lines, harsh prints or bright colours for instance.

"Will the photos be retouched?"

Yes, any images purchased from the session will be retouched fully for you. This includes spot removal and adjusting colour imperfections if needed. The images won't be edited to change what you look like in any way though, as this goes against what headshots should be about. Everyone is beautiful, remember that!
